‘A Pot of Flowers’

Janet Keenan of Lemon Tree Quilts visited Mannin Quilters on Friday the 16 September 2011, when she gave a talk to members and guests, on her patchwork journey.  The evening was inspirational to beginners and the most experience quilter alike.  On the Saturday she held a workshop at St Marks hall and those members who were lucky enough to get a place were in for a treat.

Janet was an excellent tutor – patient, down to earth and approachable. Her common sense approach to quilting was welcomed by everybody.  By the end of the morning we all got our quilting lines less curvy and more wave like!  The afternoon was spent applying our design to our, now quilted, background and learning the construction of the stitch used to machine appliqué our design.  By the end of the day we all went Home with a big smile on our faces, an almost completed wall hanging and more importantly with the knowledge and skills to apply this technique to our own projects. Here are some examples of work produced at the workshop.  Click on them for a larger image.

Some comments from the workshop

............... What a lovely evening we had on Friday, listening to Janet talking about her quilting and looking at all the quilts she brought with her in her little mini, there must have been 100, and at the end the table was piled high and we got to look at all of them close up.  Janet is a natural speaker, funny and down to earth, a quilter from the real world pointing out how she gets around all the  tricky corners and how to hide mistakes. What a treat you missed if you didn't make it.
.................The workshop was great, especially for those of us who are not confident at machine quilting the backgrounds of quilts, now we've got the hang of it we can all do quilt as you go quilts.  Everybody was delighted with their work and felt confident enough to finish off the last bits at Home. In fact we all enjoyed it so much, we asked Janet would she come back again and do another talk and workshop for us and she agreed!
